Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Operational Director, the Chief of Radiation Therapy and Department Development serves as a key leadership position within the Department of Radiation Oncology. This dual-role position encompasses strategic oversight of Radiation Therapy operations and spearheads the implementation of innovative treatment technologies along with assisting with space design, building new workflows, and supporting network development initiatives. The role combines hands-on leadership of the Radiation Therapy team with strategic direction of technological advancement initiatives. This position requires a dynamic leader who can balance clinical excellence with strategic innovation, while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and professional development within the Radiation Therapy team. Leadership & Operations Management : Directs clinical and operational oversight of Radiation Therapy services. Leads strategic planning and implementation of new treatment technologies. Ensures optimal staffing levels and resource allocation. Implements departmental quality assurance programs. Oversees emergency response protocols and equipment failure contingencies. Develops new workflows to optimize therapist operations. Supports network development. Works with Chief Simulation Therapist and Clinical Physicist Director to ensure optimal patient flow. Clinical Excellence : Establishes and maintains radiation treatment protocols and safety standards. Provides expert guidance on complex treatment planning and execution. Supervises contrast administration protocols and safety guidelines. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Directs quality improvement initiatives and technical standardization efforts. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of treatment planning systems and EMR. Department Development & Innovation : Evaluates and implement emerging radiation therapy technologies. Develops strategic implementation plans for new equipment and procedures. Designs and optimizes clinical workflows. Collaborates on facility planning and expansion initiatives. Partners with equipment vendors on technology assessment and integration. Leads cross-functional teams in process improvement initiatives. Administrative Leadership : Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures. Collaborates on budget planning and resource allocation. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (ACR, DPH, Joint Commission). Coordinates radiation therapy student education programs. Supervises staff: Hires and develops team members with the capabilities to achieve organizational goals. Defines and communicates clear expectations, provides regular constructive feedback, and evaluates performance against objectives. Oversees team’s compliance with organizations policies and procedures. Monitors work for efficiency, effectiveness, and quality. Mentors and coaches staff, facilitating training opportunities and supporting career growth. Works with senior management and Human Resources to address performance issues, as appropriate. Promotes and fosters a health and productive work environment within the team and with groups across the Institute.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises Radiation Therapists, Senior Radiation Therapists, and Lead Radiation Therapists. Bachelor’s Degree required. Valid Massachusetts State License in Radiation Therapy required. ARRT certification required. Valid BLS certification within 60 days of hire date. Minimum of Seven (7) years of continuous clinical experience required. Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience required.
